Philips PET830: Tablet DVD Player

mainphoto5567.jpgIt’s been a while since we’ve been impressed by a portable DVD player…as in forever. But with a slight design alteration, the Philips PET830 gives some hope to a formerly dead end of electronics.

Add in DivX, MPEG4, MP3 and WMA support and the PET830 is almost as good at playing media as the laptop you’ll purchase instead. No pricing info yet. – Mark Wilson

AirStation Wireless-N Nfiniti WiFi Router Does A/B/G and Draft N

mainphoto6017.jpgThe headline says it all, folks. We don’t know much about this multilingual WiFi AP except that it’ll do every flavor of 802.11 that you can toss its way. Woot!

From checking out the image under 20x magnification, I speculate it has a 4-port Gigabit switch built into its backside. The grey background of the image is symbolic of the extreme WiFi-ness that your house and body will be bathed in once you plug this baby in. –Brian Lam

Philips DVD Micro Theatre MCD908 Rocks a Tube Amp

mainphoto5487.jpgIt’s not your average shelf system stereo because it a) has a DVD player, and B) rocks a tube amp. Beautiful an glowy, and very soulful for a big CE company like Philips. You know all about pretty glowy things, because of those Ambilight HDTVs I love so much, don’t ya? Yes you do!

The speakers look to have around a 1 inch tweeter and 4 inch woofer. The remote clearly steals some ID from the RAZR’s central nav pad. I’d take one…if I had bookshelves to perch em on.–Brian Lam

iHome iHC5: First Bluetooth Clock Radio

mainphoto5620.jpgWith phones, headsets, and speakers getting Bluetooth, it was inevitable that alarm clocks would get them too. iHome’s iHC5 dual-alarm clock radio has wireless capability that lets you both stream music from your PC/phone and act as a speakerphone for your cell. The upside? You won’t need both an alarm clock and speakers. – Jason Chen

Garmin Nuvi 670 GPS with MSNDirect for Weather, Traffic, Movie Times

mainphoto5907.jpgHere’s a leaked Garmin Nuvi GPS. Two things. The Nuvi’s new widescreen format makes it harder to pocket, and the whole nuvi concept was pocketability. Secondly, this one pulls data from MSN Direct. You know the same tech that powers spot watches. Those things sucked, but this could work out nicely. It probably will cost a few bucks, like many of today’s traffic solutions. but this one will be neato, including data for “geo-referenced information like traffic conditions, weather forecasts, fuel prices, and movie times.” Could be decent competition to the new wave of smart GPS navigators like the Dash Express.–Brian Lam

DirecTV SAT+GO! Brown Box Does Portable Satellite TV

directvsatgo.jpgDuh. Who knows if this’ll see the light of day, but the DirecTV SAT+GO!, or Satellite To Go, has both an annoying name, and a brown color reminiscent of the swampy Zune. The briefcase sized box folds out to reveal a dish in the back, and an LCD on its face, with controls below it. I’m doubtful it’s HDTV, but if so, that’s a double leap in tech innovation. Sources also say this setup will have a data component to it, at least for the channel guides, if not for other data hookups. Of course, this photo is a pretty rendering a 2nd year design student could have pulled off. Don’t get me wrong: It’s a real honest to god DirecTV product in the making. But taking something like this to market, well…I’ll believe it when I see it at Best Buy. Portable satellite TV is the TV Shoe of this decade. –Brian Lam

Japan’s Sharp W-Zero an iPod for Dirty Old Businessmen

willcom11.jpgJapanese tech magazine Nikkei Trendy just released their Top 30 Coolest Products List. DS Lite game Brain Age was at the top of the list, but rounding out number 5 was Sharp’s W-Zero3–like an ipod for dirty old businessmen.

To qualify, products had to be released between October 05 and September 06, so the Wii and the PS3 and all the other wonderful things that we’ve been talking about recently will have to wait til next year’s list. –Lisa Katayama

PS3 Greymarket Watch: Muggers Get Caught

It’s nice to see dudes get what’s coming to them. The 21-year-old man who was shot by two gunmen while waiting in line at Wal-Mart for the PS3 is fine now, but the two idiots who shot him have been caught. Kotaku reports:

William J. Robertson, 20, and Andrew Patnaude, 17, were arrested about 4 a.m. on several charges including attempted murder and robbery.

The victim? Even after being blasted by a shotgun, his “only concern was getting those Playstation 3s.” It’s a shame that he only wanted the PlayStations 3 to scalp later. – Jason Chen

What Not To Do When Playing Wii

We’ve been hearing reports all over the place of people’s Wii straps breaking and their Wiimotes smashing into their 61-inch TVs. If this guy is any indication of how these dudes are playing Wii Sports, we say no frickin wonder!

Tip: Don’t try to serve like Pete Sampras unless you can actually hold on to your Wiimote. – Jason Chen

The Annoy-a-tron

annoyatron2.jpgIf you’ve got a professor, a co-worker, or sibling that you really, really hate, this Annoy-a-tron is the perfect thing to drive them up the wall. The small-ish gadget fits discretely under desks, in bags, or in closets and lets out a short beep in 2 to 8 minute intervals.

We had a cellphone run low on battery and beep every few minutes, and since we have about 57 cellphones here you can imagine how hard it was to identify the source. This is that idea taken a step further—just enough to drive someone batsh*t insane.– Jason Chen

iHome iH85: First Look at the Thermos-Shaped iPod Bicycle Boombox

ihomeboom.jpgHere’s King of the ipod speakers so far. Why? I can’t think of one easier to carry. You slip the ipod into a protective, rubberized, canister-shaped speaker, which goes into an over the shoulder ipod holder. Rhyming is awesome. Walk along some boulevard, whistling along to your favorite song. Then, as you wander off into some bad neighborhood and the clouds roll in ominously along with a pack of thugs, use the pod-in-a-bag as a blackjack to fight off the bad men. And don’t forget to change the track to a song worth fighting to.

No details forthcoming. You’ll know when we know. –Brian Lam

Essentially a small refrigerator made just for drinks, this thing will set you back $149.95, which in Grandpa-money is like 847 Werther’s Originals.
